Value Added Learning 1

Replace the wasted time in your daily tasks with Value Added Learning by following these 3 simple tips.

We never have enough time for the important things in life.  But most of us aren’t effectively using the time we have available.  Follow these three tricks to capture wasted time and get your productivity back on track!

Put it in Your Pocket

Write your topic on flash cards.  If you have 100 flash cards, take them with you.  Always keep about 7 of them in your pocket, and pull them out whenever you are wasting time in line somewhere (a restaurant, an ATM… there are lots).  Switch out for a new set of 7 cards every time you’ve mastered the current set.  You will make surprisingly fast progress!

Instead of standing around being bored, you can be learning.  Study time scheduled: 0.  Learning: 100. It’s like time in a bottle your pocket!

Go Faster

Did you know that your iPhone can play podcasts at 1.5 or even 2x regular speed?  Learn via podcast at super speed.  Congratulations, you just replaced wasted time with Value Added Learning!

Turn Off the TV

You know it’s true: you spend too much time looking for quality TV (there isn’t much).  Maybe you’re watching the same HGTV home renovation shows over and over (admit it: you already know how to do half of it, and the other half isn’t something you’d ever want to do yourself).  Maybe you’re on season 10 of that show using the same “plot-in-a-box-off-the-shelf” formula as all the other shows (you know, the one where the cast members explain everything “Barney style” to one another in an effort to nudge the viewers through the story, and the seemingly insignificant character introduced early in the show becomes a key character at the end)?  But either way, that time is gone forever and you’re no better off for having wasted it.

Set a Timer

Brain Freeze!

Brain Freeze!

Yes, it is vital that you see all the “cat brain freeze” videos on Facebook (hey, I’m on your side here).  But if you set a timer, you’ll find that you have time to catch up on the important things without getting trapped by the social media time-suck.

That’s all there is to it!  Waste is replaced by value, and you now have more time in your day for the important things.
